How to setup Spotter

1. Install Theme

To install this theme you need to have a working version of WordPress already installed. This installation guide will help you to install WordPress. The theme files can be uploaded in two ways: through FTP or through WordPress dashboard.

Using your FTP program, upload the non-zipped theme folder into the /wp-content/themes/ folder on your server.

To upload through WordPress, navigate to Appearance > Add New Themes > Upload.
Go to Browse, and select the zipped theme folder. Click Install Now and the theme will be uploaded and installed.

Once the theme is uploaded, you need to activate it. Navigate to Appearance > Themes and activate the theme.

 

2. Install required plugins

After you have installed the theme, please install some additional plugins that are necessary for the theme to work correctly.

Navigate to Appearance > Install Plugins. You will see the list of plugins recommended.

Essential

  • WP Spotter Core - plugin that adds all post types needed by our theme. Click the Install link next to the plugin title. When it is installed, return to the plugins list and click Activate.
  • Visual Composer is a powerful drag-and-drop page builder plugin. Spotter theme provides additional shortcodes for Visual Composer. Once you install it, you will be able to use the full theme's functionality. Click the Install link next to the plugin title. When it is installed, return to the plugins list and click Activate.
  • Redux is a simple, truly extensible and fully responsive options framework for WordPress themes and plugins.


Optional

  • Envato WordPress Toolkit will help you to get the latest theme updates immediately.
  • WP Retina 2x is recommended for the images on your site to be displayed correctly on high resolution devices.
  • Maintenance is a plugin that makes your site invisible to visitors and search systems until you are ready to open it

 

3. Setup demo-content

Before uploading the demo you need to know that WordPress creates a sample page and a sample post when it is installed. You can delete them. Please take a look at Appearance > Widgets. WordPress also sets some default widgets in the widget area. Delete them also if you want

If you would like to get demo content pages please follow the instructions:

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Spotter Options > Demo Content.
  2. Click on Load Data button on the bottom of the page.
  3. Wait a few minutes until the data is loaded.

 

4. Setup menus

To create a new menu:

  1. Go To Appearance > Menus
  2. Click on Create A New Menu
  3. Use the block on the left to add pages, posts, categories, custom links or objects to your menu.
  4. Choose the menu you created as Top primary menu in Manage Locations section.

Our theme provides menus included in demo content which you can always edit or switch.
To edit it make sure that you select the menu you want to edit in Select a menu to edit option.

 

5. Home page

Our theme provides default pages with demo content which you can set up as front page.

  1. Go to Settings > Readings and select Front page displays > A static page (select "Home")

Otherwise, you can always create your custom page and set up it as front page:

  1. Go to Pages > Add new
  2. Type any title for the page, for example "Home"
  3. Create and save the page
  4. Go to Settings > Readings and select Front page displays > A static page (select "Home")
